Albert's journey: Footprints of an Immigrant  by Dolores A. Kelly

Albert’s Journey is an immigrant success story: the tale of an uncle, born in a sleepy Italian town, who comes to the United States during the great wave of immigration in the first decades of the 20th Century. Albert eventually sets out on his own path, moving to California and planting his own family roots. Growing up, going to high school, finding his true love and building a wide circle of family and friends, this biography mainly depicts the life of a young immigrant boy who – thousands of miles away from his familiar, comfortable boyhood home – decides to discover for himself all that his new country promises.

Albert’s Journey touches on the lives of many millions of immigrants who came to the United States, and still come, to find a better life; it’s a warm, poignant reminder that someone new and unfamiliar in our country is, at heart, not that much different than those of us who desire a happy life; one full of love, family and friends, and motivated by a passion for doing whatever we hope to do. Easy-to-read and filled with photos, the story is ideal for young preteen and adolescent readers studying the history of immigration; just the book for those who want to learn more about the personal experiences and adventures that immigrants, especially those close to their own ages, found in their new national home.

The book is filled with photos, used with permission, from family albums, achives, and friends.

This biography is a personal labor of love, representing her deep admiration for an uncle who brought much happiness to her family. Her more immediate professional research interests are focused on Peter Senge's concepts of systems thinking and how his disciplines could be applied practically to education as well as information literacy and its relationship to the curriculum and customer service in education and its importance in learning institutions.

Albert's Journey, lovingly written by his niece is a journey for all of us as we follow in the footsteps of the accomplishments of our immigrant ancestors. Anyone who wants to learn more about the Italian American immigrant experience will find this book a fascinating read.
